Super Cooper 5K Run/Walk
The 7th Annual Super Cooper 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk is scheduled for March 23, 2013 at the Workout Company on 443 Corporate Drive in Houma. The event, hosted by John and Ashley Fontenot of the Cooper Life Fund, raises money for families whose newborn infants are born with medical conditions and are admitted into Terrebonne General Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Mr. & Mrs. Fontenot founded the Cooper Life Fund organization after their son, Cooper, was born with a Congenital Heart Defect called Transposition of the Great Vessels, and was forced to undergo major surgery and endure many weeks in the hospital. Cooper, now a healthy young boy, takes part in the annual race. Registration begins at 7:00 AM and the one mile race begins at 8:00 AM. The 5K run immediately follows the “fun run”.
All of the proceeds of the race will be used to provide medical and social care needs to the infants born with serious medical conditions and admitted at TGMC’s NICU and to the families of these babies. The fund allows families to focus on the wellness of their child without having to worry about how they might afford the immediate necessities of caring for a sick baby. The money generated from the race provides families with a care package filled with necessities in caring for NICU infants such as gas cards, phone cards, car seats, strollers, lodging vouchers and/or other items that these families may have not prepared for while their baby is in intensive care. The Cooper Life Fund is dedicated to honoring those families with babies in the TGMC NICU and is committed to helping to ease their sorrow by letting them know that they are not alone.
John and Ashley Fontenot demonstrate the generous and compassionate spirit that is alive in Terrebonne Parish. The commitment of the Fontenots is shared by many of TGMC’s Team Terrebonne volunteers and numerous friends who share their desire to help those in our community who are most helpless. Please make plans to join in the walkers, runners and volunteers as they help give financial strength to the Cooper Life Fund in March .
